STORYLINE Don João VI, becomes king of Brazil, when he has to leave Portugal in century XVIII. This tale is told now by a Scotchman to his nephew who feels as if she were Carlota, the little girl who grows up in Spain but has her marriage arranged with the inconvenient Don João. In Brazil, Carlota commits several adulteries and crimes while Don João makes people laugh.
